This is not a high protein diet. Protein should make out about 20% of your daily calories (in an adult). Kids need more protein in order to grow. It may, however, be necessary to bolus for protein.
If you want to lose weight keep to the 20% (which is about 80g of meat for a grown woman and 120g for a man). It can also be calculated as 0.8g to 1.2g per lean body weight in an adult. (more if you are very active)
Protein can be converted into blood glucose. Too much protein can have an influence on blood glucose.
If you do not want nutritional ketones, (if you are not overweight) you may increase protein a little.
Nondiabetics and diabetics with normal blood glucose don't get diabetic kidney disease. High blood sugar levels that are unique to diabetes, and to a lesser degree the high levels of insulin required to cover high carbohydrate consumption (causing hypertension), that cause the complications associated with diabetes.

Nie-diabetes en diabete met normale bloedsuiker kry nie nierprobleme van proteïene nie. Hoë bloed glukose vlakke, uniek by diabete, en die daarmee gepaartgaande hoë insulienvlakke (in 'n mindere mate) as gevolg van te veel koolhidrate, lei tot komplikasies wat met diabetes geassosieer word.
